ASTM D3354 is a test method that provides quantitative information on the degree of blocking i.e. unwanted adhesion between layers of plastic film. Blocking can be caused by residual solvents, plasticisers and static, which can cause adhesion between flexible packaging materials. Temperature, or pressure, or both, can induce or change the degree of adhesion of the surfaces.
This test method is applicable to packaging materials, such as polymer films and plastic laminates and coated or laminated papers or metallic foils.
Before conducting ASTM D3354, it is important to read the entire specification. Standards can be obtained from appropriate standard authorities.
