Medical sharps bin puncture resistance
Customised engineering example
International standards (ASTM F2132, BS 7320, BS 23907) specify the puncture resistance of medical sharps containers. By using a programmable tension/compression tester to get real sharps to puncture samples taken from containers, it is possible to obtain repeatable and reliable test results.
Mecmesin designed and provided an attachment featuring a Luer hub fitting to connect hypodermic needles of various designs to a loadcell. A tubular sample holder allowed full penetration of the container wall without distorting the material, which would have adversely affected the results.
Tests of this nature may relate to various category of sharps, scalpel blades, trocars, hypodermic needles, and syringes. The upper fixture, the probe representing the sharp itself can accomodate a range of sizes by selection of appropriate grips.
The medical devices, pharmaceuticals and related packaging manufacturers benefit from software which has a secure architecture and database management in order to comply with FDA 21CFR Part 11 regulations, electronic signatures and records.
