Bulk liquid carrier closures
Customised engineering example
Our client manufactures liquid bulk carriers fitted with two-part plastic valve closures. The collar is welded to a plastic bag, and the valve closure is fixed onto it by a compression joint.
These joints are tested to establish the breaking force required to pull them apart. The tensile force can be as much as 25 kN.
Mecmesin designed a robust collar-retaining plate and a valve holder attached to the loadcell on a flexible link. This allowed a degree of self-alignment so that both parts are secured without damage or distortion. The collar and valve are then pulled apart axially and uniformly on a twin-column test stand, with the peak tension force being recorded by the tester.
