ASTM D6484 is a test method that determines the open-hole compressive strength of multidirectional polymer matrix composite laminates reinforced by high-modulus fibers.
It is used to study the compressive properties of a composite laminate that has a hole cut into it. A specialized fixture supports the faces of the laminate to prevent buckling while a load is applied in shear. The only acceptable failure is at the location of the hole. This test method allows for more precise composite laminate designs for structural components that may include fastener holes.
Before conducting ASTM D6484, it is important to read the entire specification. Standards can be obtained from appropriate standard authorities.
