This test method describes procedures for measuring a property of conventional vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic elastomers called tear strength.
Performed by measuring the ‘force per unit thickness’ required to either rupture, initiate, or propagate a tear in one of five test specimen geometries using a suitable tensile (tension) testing instrument.
Before conducting ASTM D624, it is important to read the entire specification. Standards can be obtained from appropriate standard authorities.
