Requirement
Toit Fishing’s mission is to develop, improve and reimagine fishing tools with overarching themes of reliability, functionality, durability and environmental sustainability. The company creates products which not only resist corrosion and eliminate plastic parts, but are understated, visually appealing and feel good in the hand.
What sets Toit Fishing apart is the engagement with its customers and the wider fishing community. Rich media is used to show the products in action and to also to physically test the performance and manufacturer's claims for the material tensile strength of their fishing lines. In addition, Toit measures the physical strength and relative performance of various knot types. Toit looks to employ experience and practices from the world of aerospace and motorsport to verify that the tests are carried out to the strictest conditions, ensuring absolute confidence in the accuracy and repeatability of the results.
Solution
Toit Fishing use a 5 kN rated MultiTest-i software-controlled tensile tester. Bollard grips, designed to securely hold cables, cords, filaments and wires, ensure that the elongation and movement is constrained to with the sample itself—essential for optimum relevancy in the test, particularly the performance of knots.
The software enables repeated testing with the same program across batches of samples, to give absolute confidence in the data. This calibrated system enables Toit to compare the results obtained with claimed performance for line strength and also to compare various knot types back-to-back with each other, measured on the same test equipment.
The videos of the testing provide informative, engaging content to the company’s customers, enabling them to make confident decisions about their equipment choices.
